Mother's Day!

Wow, there have been some really great posts lately. I hope everyone is reading and joining in with the Blogging Against Disablism Day conversations here on Quench.

On another subject - it's almost Mother's Day! I'm looking for suggestions for Mother's Day gifts that also benefit others (ie, where a percent of profits go to nonprofit work, or even referrer links that I could use to buy regular gifts that would benefit charity). Let me know!

There's always Heifer International, whose mission is "to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth. Heifer does this by providing appropriate livestock, training and related services to small-scale farmers and communities worldwide."

Basically you can buy an animal (everything from bees to llamas), either in your name or someone else's. The website is really informative and has their entire catalog.

www.thehungersite.com they do express delivery for jewelry and each thing you guy gives around 35-50 cups of food. I got my girlfriend a ring there, she loved it. and 75 cups of food were donated!

Kiva sells gift certificates that can be used for microfinancing.

DonorsChoose is another great one...they work on donating books to public schools.

i also discovered two other ways to help online: Good Search and Good Shop. Good Search is like Google (sadly, not as smart of a search engine), but you can make money for a charity of your choice while you search, and Good Shop has referrer links to all different stores that donate a portion of the sale to your charity.

Doesn't give your mom a product, but it does give her fame on the site!
