What is wrong with these people?

BU College Republicans Offer White Scholarship

Looking to draw attention to what they call the "worst form of bigotry confronting America today," Boston University's College Republicans are circulating an application for a "Caucasian Achievement and Recognition Scholarship" that requires applicants be at least 25 percent Caucasian.
Yes, Read that again. They said "worst form of bigotry confronting America today."These guys want attention so bad that I barely decided to write this but I thought y'all should know. Whoever contributed to that $250 should be ashamed of themselves. Anyone know if they got any grant money for this?

sigh. there are so many ideological problems with this that i can hardly begin, but we could start with the ambiguity and dynamism of "whiteness" over the years. defining that which is "white" has always been incredibly unstable and slippery, and usually ends up meaning those for whom it's convenient not to include in racial margins and minorities. blaugh. bad idea.

I'd love to see someone apply for this and then donate it to somewhere like the United Negro College Fund or the Southern Poverty Law Center. Why let good money go to waste when you can use it to help screw the bastards who're handing it out?

seems to me that it's a group of people who are inciting controversy for the sake of inciting controversy - and because they know that they can. i'd google "dartmouth review" in google news for another stupid "we're a bunch of bored white dudes who want to see if we can push people's buttons" kerfuffle.

if i were a counter-protester i'd do something passive aggressive like (literally) dump 100,000 crickets in front of their meeting space, so that the only response that they'd get is the deafening sound of 100,000 crickets chirping. now, where can one obtain 100,000 crickets in the dead of winter... =P
