things that are awkward: #45294

So, last night Facebook released the feature that lets college students and high school students be friends. Naturally, I friended my 16-year-old sister, and I added the detail that we were siblings. After confirming our friendship, she edited our friend detail:

I swear it was her idea.

I was just talking to a friend who, because of this, decided to take his sexual orientation off of his profile. He was like "I can't not accept my little brother's friendship - that would be weird, but I'm also not out to him."

Will having high school facebook friends pull more people back into the closet?

What do you think?

Also, I think it's hilarious that your sister put up that you two hooked up.

I think it definitely will make people rethink (at the least) their outness on facebook. I mean...it's not so much an issue for me because most my high school friends read my blog, where I am out. But a few don't, and it was on my mind today.

Wow, and to think I had the chance to hook up with you while we were married and never took advantage of it. *tear*

so... i don't think it changes anything for me. the people i'm friends with from high school still have strong ties to our home town, so... whatever i put on the facebook is already common knowledge, most likely... yay small towns!
